Jonathan Palomo put up three shots.
SAN ANTONIO – The Wiley College men's soccer team will have to start a new winning streak on Saturday after a 2-0 Red River Athletic Conference loss at Our Lady of the Lake University Thursday.
The defeat snaps a four-game winning streak – which was a program high. The Wildcats fell to 0-5-2 against the Saints. Wiley College had more scoring opportunities with 12 shots and five on goal. None of them got past Our Lady of the Lake's goalkeeper Jorge Cavazos. The Wildcats were awarded 10 corner kicks.
"It doesn't feel good to lose, but it's not the end of the season," head coach Demetrio Hernandez said. "If we cashed in on a couple of opportunities it would have been a different game. We had five shots on goal and came up empty. They had four shots and put in two. We will have to do better in our next game."
Abraham De La Mora (JR/El Paso, Texas) led the Wildcats with three shots and two on goal. Jonathan Palomo (SR/Donna, Texas) had three shots. Wiley College fell behind in the 28th minute on a goal by Our Lady of the Lake's Adrian Delgado. David Hillman provided an insurance goal in the 61st minute. Erik Reyes (SR/Fort Worth, TX) made saves on two shots and fell to 4-2. The Wildcats defended against three corner kicks.
On Saturday, Wiley College will travel to Huston-Tillotson for a 3 p.m. game. The Rams beat Texas A&M-Texarkana 4-2.
