Wiley College falls to 5-18 and 0-5 in Red River Athletic Conference play
Wildcats fall in series finale against No. 13 LSU-Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La – The Wiley College baseball team was no match for No. 13 Louisiana State University-Shreveport in a 10-2 loss in the Red River Athletic Conference series finale Monday.
The game was originally supposed to be played at Coker Field in Marshall, Texas. Rain on Sunday caused the field not be playable. Starting pitcher Austin Rotramel (FR/Plano, Texas) was unable to fool the Pilot hitters as they tagged him for 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits. He walked two hit, hit one and struck out one.
The Wildcats (5-18, 0-5 in RRAC) allowed the Pilots to score the first eight runs. Wiley College scored its only two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ruben Hancock (FR/Sugarland, Texas) hit a two-RBI single to left – which scored Oswaldo Palacios (SR/Houston, Texas) and Zachary Pearson (SR/Many, Louisiana). Hancock and Pearson both went 2 for 2.
Joe Champion (JR/Brownsville, Texas) relieved Rotramel and threw three hitless innings. He did struggle with control with five walks and a hit batter. He struck out four and got out of a bases loaded situation in the sixth inning. John Jones (SR/DeSoto, Texas) gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth.
Wiley College will try to get its first RRAC win when it visits Jarvis Christian College for a three-game series Friday and Saturday.
