HAWKINS, Texas – The Wiley College baseball team is still looking for its first Red River Athletic Conference victory as it lost 9-4 and 14-4 to Jarvis Christian College Saturday.

"We have to play better," head coach Kendrick Biggs said. "Our pitchers have to do a better job out of the bullpen. We have lost a lot of close games. Our record doesn't show how good we are. We just can't get over our slump."

In the first game, the Wildcats (5-21, 0-8 in RRAC) allowed the Bulldogs to score six runs on three singles and an error. Austin Rotramel (FR/Plano, Texas) was the starting pitcher and gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits, walked four and struck out four in five innings.

Wiley College didn't get its first hit until the fourth inning. The Wildcats rallied in the sixth inning with four runs on four hits. Eloy Reyna III (SO/Houston, Texas) singled with the bases loaded to score Zachary Pearson (SR/Many, Louisiana). Tyler Baumann (SO/Houston, Texas) drove in Ruben Hancock (FR/Sugarland, Texas) with a walk. Brian Scott Jr. (JR/New Orleans, Louisiana) brought in Justin Harmon (JR/Beaumont, Texas) on ground out to first. Luis Santiago (FR/Salinas, Puerto, Rico) hit a RBI single – which scored Reyna - cutting Jarvis Christian College's lead to 6-4.

John Jones (SR/DeSoto, Texas) took over and struggled to throw strikes, he was pulled after walking his only two batters. Darian Fleming (SO/Beaumont, Texas) pitched the rest of the game – giving up an unearned run on one hit. He hit one batter and struck out one. The Wildcats allowed the Bulldogs to score three runs on a sacrifice fly, balk and a dropped third strike.

Wiley College took the lead in Game 2 when Baumann reached on an error. Justice Brown (SO/Sugarland, Texas) and Hancock scored on the play. The lead was short-lived as the Wildcats gave up six runs over the next two innings on three hits, and error and wild pitch.

Gilberto Ruiz (SR/Caguas, Puerto Rico) started Game 2 and settled down after the third inning. He only allowed one hit in the next three innings. For the game, he gave up six hits and walked four batters. Only three of the six runs he allowed were earned.

The Wildcats bounced back with two runs in the seventh inning. Brown led off with a triple to right-center field. He scored on a ground ball by Hancock. Harmon hit a double to right field. Breon Ector (SO/Kilgore, Texas) came in to pinch hit drove in Harmon with a single. Oswaldo Palacios (SR/Houston, Texas) followed with a double. A pop out and fly out ended the inning.

Joshua Simon (FR/New Iberia, Louisiana) took over on the mound in the seventh inning and wasn't able to silence the Bulldogs' bats. He was tagged with six runs (five earned) on four hits, walked two and hit one in one inning. Simon pitched to the first two batters in the eighth inning before being relieved by Jones, who was only able to record one out before the Bulldogs clinched a run-rule.

Wiley College will try to get its first conference victory when it hosts the University of the Southwest on Friday and Saturday.
