Natasha Poleon ran the Lady Wildcats fastest time in the 400-meter dash since 2008.
HOUSTON – The Wiley College women's track and field team gained two NAIA Championship qualifiers and had several people finish near the top in their events at the Texas Southern Relays Saturday in Houston.
In Friday's preliminaries, senior Terrisa Mark (SR/Princess Town, Trinidad) ran 12.14 in the 100-meter dash to surpass the NAIA 'B' championship qualifying standard. Her time qualified for the finals but she didn't run Saturday. Natasha Poleon (JR/Vieux Fort, St. Lucia) won the 400-meter dash Saturday with a time of 54.37 – which is fastest by a Lady Wildcat since 2008. She also finished third in the 200-meter dash at 24.44.
Chriss Ann Thomas and Danielle David (SO/Point Fortin, Trinidad) finished third (56.22) and fourth (56.35) in the 400-meter dash, respectively. Thomas' time exceeded the NAIA 'A' qualifying standard. Shamona Hunt (SO/St. Catherine, Jamaica) and Deja Harrison (JR/Houston, Texas) finished third (2:18.78) and fourth (2:19.04) in the 800-meter run, respectively.
The Lady Wildcats will travel to Arlington on Saturday for the Bobby Lane Invitational.
