Wildcats drop to 8-35 and 3-20 in Red River Athletic Conference Play
TATUM, Texas – The Wiley College baseball team couldn't stop Texas A&M University-Texarkana from scoring in 15-6 and 16-6 Red River Athletic Conference losses Saturday at Tatum Eagle Park.
The Wildcats ace Brandon Bilnoski (SO/Marshall, Texas) was unable to hold down the Eagles' bats. He was tagged for nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, and three strikeouts in 11 innings. Wiley College didn't get closer than eight after the third inning.
Wiley College's best offensive inning was the sixth when it scored four runs. Justice Brown (SO/Sugarland, Texas) reached on an error. Tyler Baumann (SO/Houston, Texas) drove him in with a bases-loaded walk. Darian Fleming (SO/Beaumont, Texas) – who reached on a walk - scored on an error. Oswaldo Palacios (SR/Houston, Texas) scored on a ground ball by Luis Santiago (FR/Salinas, Puerto, Rico). Baumann scored on a wild pitch.
In Game 2, the Wildcats (8-35, 3-20 in RRAC) pulled out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Eloy Reyna III (SO/Houston, Texas) hit a two-RBI double. Baumann drove in Zachary Pearson (SR/Many, Louisiana) on a bases loaded walk. Like so many times this season, Wiley College's lead was short-lived. It allowed three runs in the third inning to trail 4-3.
The Wildcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. Brown led off with a walk. A double by Ruben Hancock (FR/Sugarland, Texas) brought him home. Devin Barnes (SR/Vidalia, Louisiana) hit his second home run of the season to help Wiley College regain the lead, 6-4. It was unable to protect its lead. The Eagles scored 12 runs in the last four innings.
Wiley College will play its final road games of the season at No. 13 Texas Wesleyan University on Tuesday. The Wildcats final RRAC series is at home against Huston-Tillotson University.
