The Wiley College baseball team hopes to end the 2017 season on a high note as it plays Huston-Tillotson University in a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series at Tatum Eagle Park.
Friday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. Senior Day will be after the first game. Devin Barnes (SR/Vidalia, Louisiana), John Jones (SR/DeSoto, Texas), Oswaldo Palacios (SR/Houston, Texas), Zachary Pearson (SR/Many, Louisiana), Gilberto Ruiz (SR/Caguas, Puerto Rico), Trevor Spear (SR/Elysian Field, Texas) and Tre'von Thomas (SR/Beaumont, Texas) will be honored. Saturday's season finale will start at noon.
The Wildcats (8-37, 3-20 in RRAC) enter Friday on an eight-game losing streak. Out of contention for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament, Wiley College is looking to build momentum for next season. Luis Santiago (FR/Salinas, Puerto, Rico) leads the team with a .357 batting average. Justice Brown (SO/Sugarland, Texas) leads the Wildcats with 35 runs scored and 30 RBIs. Brandon Bilnoski (SO/Marshall, Texas) leads the team with a 5.51 ERA, three wins and 68 strikeouts.
The Rams are also eliminated from contending for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament and on an eight-game losing streak. Paul Garcia leads Huston-Tillotson with a .431 batting average, shares the lead in runs with Ajani Dowdy at 35 and RBIs with 38. Todd DeLeon leads the team with a 7.95 ERA and is 3-4.
The overall series is fairly even with the Wildcats having a slight edge at 18-15. Huston-Tillotson won three of four games last season in Austin, Texas.
