Glover repeats as GCAC SID of the Year

For the second straight season, Wiley University Sports Information Director Andrew Glover rose to the top of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference as his peers voted him GCAC SID of the Year for the 2023-24 season.

Glover will be nominated for NAIA SID of the Year. The winner will be announced during the NAIA National Awards Day in September. He earned SID of the Year for the third time in the last four seasons that the Wildcats competed. His previous win was after the 2019-20 season when Wiley competed in the Red River Athletic Conference. The honor is the second for Glover, who also claimed Black College Nines Sports Information Director of the Year for his coverage of the baseball team.

Glover will be the final GCAC SID of the Year winner as the conference will rebrand to the Historical Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference on July 1.

In his second season in the GCAC, Glover successfully nominated 29 GCAC Athletes of the Week and one NAIA Athlete of the Week. Additionally, he helped head women's basketball coach DeWitt Mandley earn Women's Hoop Dirt Coach of the Week. GLover nominated 16 athletes for academic awards which included NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District. His social media posts reached nearly a million people. The social media accounts surpassed 3,500 followers on X - formerly known as Twitter; 4,000 followers on Facebook and 2,500 followers on Instagram.

This past season, Glover took a leadership position in the GCAC serving as the chair of the SID committee. He led the bi-weekly minutes and helped find opportunities to promote GCAC athletes. Glover was also on the conference rebranding committee and helped select the logo for the HBCU Athletic Conference. At the beginning of the Spring semester, he handled the University's marketing while it searched for a new director.

"It feels great to see once again my hard work pay off and for others to notice what I'm accomplishing at Wiley University. I'm grateful to work with great athletes, co-workers, and students. This year, I took a leadership position in the conference, and I'm honored to have the favor of my colleagues."

Glover completed his ninth year at Wiley. Director of Athletics Rafael Gonzalez said the department is fortunate to have him.

"Mr. Glover is a huge asset to our department," Gonzalez said. "He does an amazing job promoting our athletes, and institution and increasing the coverage of Wiley University Athletics. He has been a major help since I became Director of Athletics in March."
