Guillory selected to Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game
Wiley University pitcher Keyon Guillory caps his freshman season with another prestigious honor as he was selected to the Minority Baseball Prospects Historically Black Colleges and University's All-Star Game.
The game will be at 7 p.m. on June 1 at the University of Houston's Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park. The game will be streamed on Minority Prospects YouTube Channel. Live statistics will be available on GameChanger a scorekeeping app that can be downloaded in your mobile device's App Store. The athletes will play on either Team Michael Bourn, which will be coached by Prairie View A&M University head coach Auntwan Riggins, or Team Carl Crawford coached by Southern University head coach Chris Crenshaw.
In his first collegiate season, Guillory was dominant in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play, winning seven of eight starts, throwing three shutouts, four complete games and striking out 10 or more batters in three games. He earned GCAC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year and landed on the All-GCAC First Team. He was a four-time GCAC Pitcher of the Week and earned NAIA Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21. Additionally, Guillory was named Black College Nines Freshman of the Year and Elite First Team pitcher. Guillory is the first Wildcat selected to the HBCU All-Star Game.
"I felt honored with all the hard work and dedication I put in," Guillory said about his accomplishments. "The help from my teammates and coaches pushing each other every day, I couldn't do it without them."
Wiley University head coach Kendrick Biggs said Guillory carried himself well in his freshman season.
"He had great grit and toughness," Biggs said. "He handled pressure well and threw a lot of strikes."
Along with the game, Guillory will participate in an educational symposium sponsored by Disney on the Yard on Thursday. The symposium will teach the athletes the importance of preparing for careers after baseball. The organization will hold a Sneaker Ball for the baseball and softball athletes. Before the game on Saturday, the baseball All-Stars will lead a youth clinic.
