Perez earns CSC Academic All-District

Wiley University baseball player Jacob Perez was honored for his achievements on the field and in the classroom as he was named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.

Perez was one of many athletes from all levels of college baseball across the nation, who maintained a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point average and either competed in 90 percent of their team's games or started in 66 percent of their team games. He is the first Wiley University baseball player to win the honor.

After being limited to 22 games in 2023, Perez played and started in 47 of 50 games for the Wildcats last season. He hit .322 and ranked near the top of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with 18 doubles. He was one of over a hundred athletes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics who held a perfect fielding percentage, making 44 putouts and three assists in left field. His play helped the Wildcats win the GCAC regular season title and clinch their second berth in the Black College World Series.

Perez has been the team captain for the last two seasons. He finished his junior season with a 3.87 cumulative GPA after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Spring 2024 semester. This honor is the third academic honor earned by Perez, who claimed Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete.
