Women's Soccer reveals 2024 schedule

The Wiley University women's soccer team will play 14 matches with four at Pemberton Field as it revealed its 2024 schedule Wednesday.

The 2024 campaign will begin with scrimmages against Jacksonville College on Aug. 13 and Paris Junior College on Aug. 17. The Lady Wildcats open the season against Nelson University, formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God, on August 22. It will be the Lady Lions' first visit to Marshall since 2015. On August 24, it will embark on a three-match road trip at North American University, Texas Wesleyan University (Aug. 26) and Texas A&M University-Texarkana (Aug. 31).

Wiley will return home for matches against Arlington Baptist University (Sept. 6) and Tougaloo College (Sept. 8). It will hit the road for matches at NCAA Division III institution Austin College (Sept. 12), Louisiana Christian University (Sept. 18) and Centenary College of Louisiana (Sept. 21). The Lady Wildcats will rematch with the Ladies on September 25 for their final home game.

They will close the regular season with a rematch against Arlington Baptist on the road and the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Invitational on October 24-26. The conference doesn't sponsor soccer because less than six schools participate. Oakwood University, Talladega College, Tougaloo and Wilberforce University are the only schools that field teams.

"I believe this is a solid schedule," said Wiley University Director of Athletics Rafael Gonzalez, who compiled the schedule before his promotion. "We're playing quality teams and the HBCUAC Invitational will give our women something to play for. Hopefully, we'll be successful enough to qualify for the CAC Championship."

The 2024 Continental Athletic Conference Championship is November 9-13 at Georgia Gwinnett College. The tournament expanded to six teams after only four qualified in previous seasons.

The Lady Wildcats are looking to play their first full season since 2018. Their return was cut short last season due to injuries. Andrew Benitez succeeded Gonzalez as head coach in May. Nearly the entire roster will return this season. Gonzalez and Benitez brought in several recruits to strengthen the roster.
