Volleyball visits Tougaloo College

Match Notes

The Wiley University volleyball team will travel to Tougaloo College for a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference match at 6 p.m. Friday in Kroger Gymnasium.

The match will stream on Tougaloo College Athletics YouTube and https://watch.hbcu-plus.com/channel/tougaloo-college. Both can be viewed online or the user can download the free app to their mobile device or Smart TV.

The Lady Wildcats (2-11, 2-7 HBCUAC) are coming off losses to Dillard University and Southern University at New Orleans. They are in a three-way tie for eighth place with SUNO and Wilberforce University. Shyla Starks posted 15 kills, and Maria Luiza Chaves averaged five assists per set, including a career-high 21 against SUNO. T'aja Hardy led the team with 17 digs.

Wiley hopes to avenge its three-set loss on September 8. It was outhit .247 to -.010 and outscored 36-22 in kills. Seven of Wiley's attacks were blocked.

Tougaloo (3-12, 2-4 HBCUAC) currently sits seventh in the conference standings but has played three fewer matches than Wiley, SUNO and Wilberforce. The Lady Bulldogs were swept on Tuesday in a non-conference match against Millsaps College. Kaliyah Shavers recorded eight kills and seven digs. Cameron Gaitlan posted 14 assists. Ke'Ira Collier led the team with eight digs. In the September 8 match, LaShundria Chatman put up 10 kills. Gaitlan tallied 14 assists, and Tatyeanna Armstrong followed with 10. Zoie Chambers recorded 10 digs.

In their only visit to Tougaloo, the Lady Wildcats notched a four-set victory last season.
