Wiley University appoints NCAA Power 5 veteran Satchell to Assistant AD, Head Coach Positions

MARSHALL, Texas - Wiley University is pleased to announce the appointment of veteran NCAA Power 5 strength and conditioning director Aurmon Satchell as Assistant Athletic Director. In addition to his administrative role, Satchell will serve as the head coach for the university's new women's flag football and men's and women's bass fishing programs.

Satchell joins the Wiley University athletics staff with nearly 20 years of strength and conditioning experience at multiple NCAA Division I institutions. Most recently, he served at the University of Arkansas (2022–2026), where he developed numerous All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selections and an NCAA All-American.

Over a distinguished career that includes stints at the University of Louisville, University of New Mexico, University of South Carolina, Indiana University, and the University of Minnesota, Satchell has trained multiple All-Conference selections, developed future NFL players, and worked alongside an Olympic athlete.

Wiley University Director of Athletics Darrius Brooks, Ph.D., expressed high enthusiasm for the landmark hire.

"This is a massive acquisition for our department," said Dr. Brooks. "Mr. Satchell has operated at the highest tier of collegiate athletics. We are incredibly excited for him to inject his energy and proven philosophies into the Wiley University athletic ecosystem."

Building New Programs

In his dual role, Satchell will collaborate directly with Dr. Brooks on departmental leadership while spearheading the construction of the women's flag football and separate men's and women's bass fishing teams.

  • Women's Flag Football: Operating as a club sport for the 2026–27 season, the program has already generated significant campus interest since its initial March announcement. It will officially transition to varsity status in 2027–28.

  • Men's and Women's Bass Fishing: Launching concurrently as club sports, both the men's and women's programs are scheduled to elevate to full varsity status for the 2027–28 academic year.

Satchell noted he is eager to embrace the multi-faceted opportunity.

"I bring energy, humility, structure, and a student-centered mindset to Wiley University," Satchell said. "I understand that this role demands trust, precise organization, clear communication, compliance awareness, and conflict resolution. It requires a strategic vision to see how today's structural decisions shape tomorrow's competitive outcomes."

Background and Education

Satchell earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Texas, where he played linebacker under legendary head coach Mack Brown. During his collegiate playing career, he helped guide the Longhorns to a 42–9 record, four bowl game victories, and three Top-10 national finishes. He is currently completing a Master of Science in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville.
