Baseball out-hits Louisiana Christian
PINEVILLE, La. – The Wiley College baseball team recorded more hits than Louisiana Christian University but weren't able to get the timely ones in a 2-1 loss Monday at Billy Allgood Field.
The Wildcats (1-3) drop to 1-1 on the road. Louisiana Christian improves to 5-0. They outhit the LC Wildcats 8-4. Traylon Ansley went 2-for-3 with a run. Devin Molina went 2-for-3. Luis Chapa hit a run-batted in single in the second. Eddie Garza, Luis Mares and Jhan Carlos Javier also recorded hits.
Wiley College had runners in scoring position in the first two innings. A double play ended the first inning and a strike out ended the second. The Wildcats didn't reach second base in the last five innings.
Ivan Del Villar who made a relief appearance in the season opener, made his first career start on the mound. He threw three hitless innings and struck out two. Jalen Porter made his third appearance and limited Louisiana Christian to two hits and struck out three.
With one out in the second, Ansley singled down the right field line. Molina followed with an infield single to third. Chapa gave the Wildcats the lead with his single to left – plating Ansley.
In the fourth inning, Drake Angeron tied the game with a leadoff home run to right. Haydon Helms followed with a single down the third base line. A sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Nick Brunet gave Louisiana Christian the lead with a single up the middle.
The Wildcats will begin an eight-game home stand on Friday against Central Christian College of Kansas. The Tigers were swept in a four-game series at the University of the Southwest last weekend. They were outscored 45-4.
