Baseball opens home stand against Central Christian
The Wiley College baseball team will play its next eight games at Airport Park – beginning with a four-game series against Central Christian College of Kansas Friday and Saturday.
The doubleheaders will begin at noon. The Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a three-game losing streak – which it only scored eight runs. Traylon Ansley went 2-for-3 against Louisiana Christian on Monday with a run scored. Kai Woodard hit two home runs and drove in three in the first game against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Sunday. Jacob Perez and Bryce Garrett drove in two runs in the second game against Science and Arts.
On the mound, Ivan Del Villar and Jalen Porter limited Louisiana Christian to two runs on four hits and struck out five. Porter also threw two scoreless innings in the first game against Science and Arts on Sunday. Dante Enrriquez tossed the only scoreless inning in the second game against the Drovers.
Central Christian (0-4) opened the season losing all four games against the University of the Southwest. It was outscored 45-4 and shutout in two games. The Tigers are hitting .202. Carlos Busman leads the team with a .500 batting average. Two of his hits went four doubles.
Thirty-six of the 45 runs allowed by the Tigers were earned. Tristan Castner had the longest start – throwing 3 2/3 innings. He gave up six runs with three earned, walked four and struck out three. Central Christian's pitchers have walked 37 and only struck out 13. Anthony Daley and Reese Lyons have thrown scoreless innings.
This weekend will be the first time the Tigers and Wildcats have met on the diamond.
