Mendoza wins GCAC Hitter of the Week

After leading his team in runs batted in, Wiley College baseball player Allan Mendoza claims the first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the 2023 season.

Mendoza drove in five runs on three hits to help the Wildcats secure a split with a 13-5 victory over Tougaloo College in the second game of the doubleheader. He tied the game twice with a two-RBI single in the second and a RBI double in the fourth. Mendoza extended the lead with a two-RBI single in the fifth.

He ranks sixth in the conference with six RBIs. His batting average improved to .294. Mendoza's performance helped the Wildcats surpass their win total from last season with their sixth victory. He hit .263 last season, scoring 15 runs and driving in 12.

They will play NCAA Division I school Alabama A&M in an exhibition doubleheader on Saturday.
