Garcia wins GCAC Pitcher of the Week
After holding the opposition scoreless in two of three innings and picking up his first career victory, Wiley College pitcher A.J. Garcia was selected as Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for March 6-12.
On March 7, Garcia pitched two innings against Arkansas Baptist College. The Wildcats took the lead in the eighth inning. He worked around two base hits to seal a 9-8 victory. After allowing a leadoff single, Garcia throw out the base runner at second on a bunt. In two innings, he struck out two batters.
Garcia pitched a scoreless inning on Saturday against Williams Baptist University – retiring it in order with one strikeout. After last week's games, Garcia is the only pitcher in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference to record a save. He is tied for fourth in wins.
This is the second time, Wiley College has claimed a weekly award. Allan Mendoza was Player of the Week for February 20-26. It's the first time a pitcher has won a weekly award since 2016.
