Baseball gives up lead in sixth inning

RESERVE, La. – The Wiley College baseball team built a three-run lead through five innings but were unable to stop a sixth-inning outburst by Dillard University in a 9-4 loss in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game Friday at Riverside Academy.

The Wildcats (13-13, 5-2 GCAC) drop into a tie for second with the Bleu Devils, trailing Rust College by at least a half game. The Bearcats hosted Oakwood on Friday afternoon.

The game was scoreless through the first two innings. Kai Woodard led off the third with a single. A walk and a ground ball moved him to third. He came home on a wild pitch. Wiley College added to their lead in the fourth inning with a two-out rally. Bryce Garrett singled and Luis Mares walked. Allan Mendoza singled and an error by Emmanuel Taveras brought Garrett and Mares home.

Dillard (9-25, 5-2 GCAC) got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on an error and a walk. After its leadoff batter struck out in the sixth, the Bleu Devils tied the game at three with four consecutive hits.
