Baseball reveals 2024 schedule

The Wiley University baseball team will play 49 games in 2024 with 16 at Airport Park, as it announced its schedule Thursday.

The Wildcats open the season at home with a four-game series against their East Texas rival Texas College on January 26 and 27. These will be the first of 13 games against the Red River Athletic Conference, which the Wildcats competed in from 1998-2022. Wiley will play a doubleheader at Louisiana Christian University on February 3. It will play a single game at Louisiana State University-Alexandria on February 6. The Highway 80 rivalry against Jarvis Christian University will resume with a doubleheader at Airport Park on February 27. Wiley will visit Texas College on February 13. It will play two games against Texas A&M University-Texarkana. The Wildcats will travel to the Eagles on March 5 and host them on April 2.

Wiley will also host Sterling College for a doubleheader on February 10, visit Texas Wesleyan – that is ranked No. 21 in the NAIA Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll – on February 16, and play two games against Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The Wildcats will travel to the Lions on February 20 and host them on March 26. Wiley will visit Central Baptist College – where assistant coach Nikaylen Morrison played on February 23 and 24. It will play Harris Stowe State University at Mississippi Valley State University on March 2.

Head coach Kendrick Biggs scheduled four exhibition games against National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I schools. The Wildcats will play at Texas Southern University on February 28. They will play a doubleheader at MVSU on March 1. The Wildcats will visit Grambling State University on March 19.

Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play will begin March 8 and 9 with Wiley hosting Dillard University in a three-game series. The teams played in the second game of the 2023 GCAC Tournament with the Wildcats falling 8-5. The Bleu Devils finished second in the conference and were Tournament runner-ups.

Wiley will only play two of its seven GCAC series at Airport Park. It will host the defending GCAC champion Rust College on March 23-24. In addition to their GCAC games, the Wildcats and Bearcats met in the 2023 Black College World Series.

The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference added two teams: Talladega College and Southern University at New Orleans. The Wildcats will visit the Tornadoes on April 6 and 7 and travel to the Knights on April 13 and 14. Wiley will visit Tougaloo College on March 16 and 17 and Oakwood University on March 28 and 29.

Last season was one of the most memorable for the Wildcats, who won 21 games – the most since 2015. They competed in the GCAC Tournament and won a game – marking their first postseason appearance since 2014 and first postseason victory since 2011. Wiley also earned its first berth to the Black College World Series. Several players are returning, including All-GCAC selections Jhan Carlos Javier, Ivan Del Villar, Kai Woodard, Isaac Burciaga and Jalen Porter.
