Baseball visits LSU-Alexandria

The Wiley University baseball team wraps up its season-opening road trip against Louisiana State University at Alexandria at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

For the third straight game the Wildcats will play a school from its former conference the Red River Athletic Conference. They opened the season on Friday with 7-3 and 15-5 losses against Louisiana Christian Unviersity.

Six Wildcats made their debuts during the doubleheader. Keyon Guillory made his first career start in the opener. Manny Contreras pitched two innings. Jaylen Cream pitched a scoreless inning. Amir Mason started at second base and drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning. Corey Grant and Nick Rodriguez pitched in Game 2.

Ryan Ready went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs in the opener. Jhan Carlos Javier went 1-for-2 with a run. Kai Woodard hit his first home run in the second inning of Game 2. Albert Thurston II hit a two-RBI double. Christian Medina picked up his first run batted in with a single.

LSU-Alexandria (0-5, 0-0 RRAC) were swept in their season opening series at Oklahoma City University and in a doubleheader against Loyola University (La.). Haynes Trahan leads LSU-Alexandria with a .417 batting average in 12 at-bats. He has three RBI and one run scored. Alex Guilbeau is hitting .357 with a run and RBI. Julien Kliebert is hitting .333 with four runs scored.

On the mound, Slone Greaves only allowed one earned run in six innings against Oklahoma City on January 29. He struck out five batters. William Vice struck out five batters in four scoreless innings. Last season, the Generals went 34-18 and finished as runners-up in the 2023 RRAC Baseball Championship.

Tuesday's game will be the 42nd meeting between the Wildcats and Generals, but first as nonconference opponents since 2013. The schools competed against each other in the Red River Athletic Conference from 2015-2022. Wiley makes its first visit to LSU-Alexandria since 2020. The series has been dominated by the Generals as the Wildcats only have 10 wins in the previous 41 games.
