Baseball falls to No. 15 Ave Maria

FT. WORTH, Texas - The Wiley University baseball team could not match the offensive prowess of No. 15 Ave Maria University in 19-0 and 12-0 losses Saturday at Texas Wesleyan University's Sycamore Park.

The Wildcats (2-7) were shutout in consecutive games for the first time since April 1 and 2, 2022. They fall to 1-6 away from Airport Park.

In the first game, Wiley was held to five hits. It had runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Jacob Perez went 2-for-3. Kai Woodard, Brendan Mendoza and Amir Mason also got base hits.

Ave Maria (4-1) scored three runs with a two-out rally in the first inning. Five batters came to the plate before the Wildcats made the final out on a flyout.

The Gyrenes put the game away in the third inning, scoring 10 runs on nine hits, three walks and an error. Jaylen Cream made his first career start and went two innings. Nick Rodriguez, Daniel Cox and Laker McPherson threw the remaining five innings.

In Game 2, the Wildcats allowed 10 runs on five hits and three errors in the first three innings. Keyon Guillory made his fourth start and second in two days. He threw 1 2/3 innings and struck out one. Josiah Jackson made his first appearance on the mound and finished the second inning. Coren Lewis tossed the last five innings and struck out a career-high seven batters.

Wiley was held to three hits. Caidin Franklin hit a double and reached base on two walks. Woodard and Ajari Camp singled. The Wildcats had runners in scoring position in the second, third, fifth and seventh innings.

They will continue their road trip on Tuesday at Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
