Baseball hosts Central Baptist
The Wiley University baseball team will return home for a four-game series against Central Baptist College Friday and Saturday at Airport Park.
The doubleheaders will start at noon. Live statistics will be available. The Wildcats are coming off an 8-7 loss at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Amir Mason went 3-for-4 with two runs and two runs batted in. Jhan Carlos Javier returned to the lineup and hit 2-for-4 with a double. Eddie Garza went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ryan Ready hit his first home run of the season, giving him a team-high five RBI. Jalen Porter made his second start and struck out four batters in five innings. Keyon Guillory fanned three in two innings.
Central Baptist (5-5) is on a four-game losing streak after getting swept by SAGU last week and falling 11-1 at Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Tuesday. The Mustangs have only won one game away from home. Jacori Hicks leads the team with a .448 batting average and eight RBI. Ryan Dauphinee is hitting .419 with seven runs, five doubles, one triple and four RBI. Josh Albat leads the starting pitchers with a 3.29 ERA. He is 2-1 with a complete game and 17 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings. Only five of the 11 runs he allowed were earned. Jackson Pope has a 1.13 ERA in two appearances out of the bullpen. He has 13 strikeouts in two appearances.
Aaron Brister is in his 10th season guiding the Mustangs. He led them to a 25-28 record last season and a berth in the American Midwest Conference semifinals.
This weekend will mark the first four games the Wildcats and Mustangs have played against each other. Since 2007, Wiley has only played against two members of the AMC. It beat Harris Stowe State in 2009 and won one of three games against Williams Baptist College last season.
