Del Villar, Guillory win GCAC Weekly Honors

After leading the Wiley University baseball team to a sweep in its Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opening series against Dillard University, Ivan Del Villar won GCAC Player of the Week and Keyon Guillory took home Pitcher of the Week for March 4-10.

Del Villar hit .600 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, six runs and a 1.133 slugging percentage in four games. He had three multiple-hit games against Dillard. He hit a grand slam in the sixth inning of Game 1 which helped Wiley pull away. He helped the Wildcats jump out to an early lead in the finale with a three-run home run in the first inning. He also stole two bases and helped turn two double plays. Del Villar is tied for second in the conference with three home runs. 

Guillory started Sunday's finale and picked up his first career win, shutout and complete game. He held the Bleu Devils to four hits and struck out a career-high 12 batters. Two of his strikeouts helped him escape bases-loaded situations in the second and fourth innings. Guillory ranks fourth in the GCAC with 31 strikeouts. This is his second award, he previously won Pitcher of the Week from February 4-10.

The Wildcats are in first place and host Texas College in a doubleheader on Tuesday. They will resume GCAC play at Tougaloo College on Saturday and Sunday.
