Guillory wins NAIA, GCAC Pitcher of the Week
After tossing his third shutout of the season and helping the Wiley University baseball team clinch the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season title, Keyon Guillory earns National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21.
Guillory is the first Wiley University baseball athlete to win an NAIA Player of the Week award. In Game 2 against Philander Smith University, he came out on top in a pitchers' duel, throwing a one-hit shutout - while striking out 12 batters in a 1-0 victory. It was Guillory's third double-digit strikeout performance and fourth complete game. He took over the GCAC lead in strikeouts with 87, which ranks 19th in the NAIA. His seven victories rank second in the conference and the top 50 of the NAIA. Guillory dropped his earned run average to 4.57.
This is the fourth time, Guillory has won GCAC Pitcher of the Week. Along with last week's win, he claimed the award on February 4-10 and March 4-10. This is the eighth GCAC weekly honor won by the Wildcats. Ryan Ready won Player of the Week this week and for the week of March 18-24. Ivan Del Villar won Player of the Week for March 4-10 and Jhan Carlos Javier won for March 11-17.
The Wildcats finished GCAC play with an 18-3 record and will face No. 8 seed Philander Smith University in the first round of the 2024 Hope Credit Union GCAC Baseball Championship at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hank Aaron Sports Academy in Jackson, Miss.
