Four Baseball athletes earn NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete
The Wiley University baseball student-athletes Caidin Franklin, Coren Lewis, Christian Medina and Jacob Perez achieved in the classroom while helping the Wildcats win the 2024 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season title, as they were named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Daktronics Scholar-Athletes the NAIA announced Thursday.
The student-athletes were three of more than 1,300 across the nation who maintained a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point average while competing in at least their second season with the team.
Franklin and Perez earn the honor a second time, while Medina and Lewis earn their first. Franklin, Lewis and Perez also earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar-Athlete and were on the 2022-23 GCAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Franklin and Perez were also Red River Athletic Conference Scholar Athletes after their freshman seasons in 2021-22.
