In an impressive display of offensive firepower, the defending Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season champion Wiley University baseball team overwhelmed Arkansas Baptist College 29-1, completing a three-game series sweep Saturday at Coker Field.
The Wildcats (6-4) win their third straight game, which is their longest winning streak this season. From the onset, the Wildcats seized control, with a standout second inning where they scored nine runs. Key performances included two-run homers from Ryan Ready and Adrian Cindo, and RBI triples by Laker McPherson and Jacob Perez. These early explosive plays set the tone for the remainder of the game, leaving the Buffaloes struggling to find their footing. For the third straight game Wiley scored in every inning.
Many players saw the field today and contributed to the offensive onslaught.. Kai Woodard led the team with four runs, coming in as part of a wholesale lineup change in the fourth inning. McPherson, alongside scoring three times, added three RBI and a triple to his day's numbers. Fifteen Wildcats drove in runs. Jaziel Martinez, who started behind the plate, went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Eddie Garza drove in two runs, Abel Rodriguez Jr. brought home two runs.
The Wildcats benefited from 11 fielding errors by the Buffaloes, which allowed them to take extra bases and generate additional scoring opportunities.
Nick Rodriguez picked up his second win, as he limited the Buffaloes to an unearned run on six hits and struck out six in four innings. Jalen Porter, Owen Anderson and Nathan Caboverde pitched the last three innings and only allowed two hits. Wiley's pitchers walked two and struck out nine batters.
Wiley will continue their opening homestand on Tuesday against Nelson University. It will look for a better performance after suffering a 17-2 loss against the Lions in Waxahachie on February 4.
