Porter repeats as HBCUAC Pitcher of the Week
In a remarkable display of talent and determination, Wiley University's pitcher Jalen Porter has been named the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive time. This prestigious recognition comes from his outstanding performance from March 31 to April 6.
On Friday against Oakwood University Porter pitched a complete game that showcased his skills and dominance on the mound. He held the Ambassadors to an unearned run on three hits and struck out 10 batters, marking his second consecutive start with double-digit strikeouts. The win was his fifth of the season.
Porter leads the HBCUAC with 73 strikeouts. His consistency and ability to perform under pressure have been vital to Wiley University's success this season as they are second in the conference standings.
This recognition marks the seventh weekly honor achieved by the Wildcats this season. Keyon Guillory earned Pitcher of the Week twice. Isaac Burciaga earned the honor once. Ivan Del Villar and Smauri Abram were Player of the Week winners.
The Wildcats (25-13, 17-4 HBCUAC) play an exhibition game Grambling State University in an exhibition game on Tuesday. They return home to resume HBCUAC play against Tougaloo College on Saturday and Sunday.
