Baseball opens 2026 Home Schedule against Ecclesia College
Wiley University baseball begins its 2026 home schedule with a six-game homestand when it hosts Ecclesia College for a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday at Coker Field.
The doubleheaders will start at noon. The second games will follow 30-40 minutes after the first ones end. Live statistics will be available for all four games. The links will be listed in the baseball schedule on wileyathletics.com.
The Wildcats (0-5) are looking for their first victory after dropping three games against No. 20 Texas A&M University-Victoria. Despite the losses, Wiley was competitive in two of the three, forcing extra innings in the finale. Jose Villalobos recorded three hits in the finale, which earned him Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Player of the Week. Daniel de los Rios reached base five times and made 13 putouts to earn Freshman of the Week.
On the mound, Coren Lewis threw two scoreless innings in the finale to help Wiley force extra innings. Estevan Baca pitched three scoreless innings in his first start. Last season, Wiley went 18-4 at Coker Field, winning six out of seven series.
Ecclesia opened the season on Wednesday with a 17-5 and 10-0 victory over Arkansas Baptist College. Gabe Reed scored three runs and drove in three in the first game. Gustavo Soto recorded three hits in the second game. The Royals only allowed one hit.
Last season the Royals went 33-14 and finished 2-2 in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Regionals. Chayse Dutile was the leading hitter with a .414 batting average. He scored 56 runs and drove in 42. Damion Bridgeman and Clay Fisher led the team with 43 RBI. Drake Chalfont recorded the most innings last season with 55 2/3. He went 7-1 in 14 appearances and 11 starts, posting a 5.50 earned run average. Eduardo Soto went 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA. He struck out 26 in 45 innings.
This weekend will mark the first meeting between the Wildcats and Royals. Under head coach Kendrick Biggs the Wildcats are 13-3 against NCCAA schools. In 2018, they won two games against Manhattan Christian College. They went 8-1 against Arlington Baptist University from 2018 to 2020. Wiley took three of five games against Champion Christian College between 2022 and 2023.
Since 2015, Wiley is 11-19 in their home opening series. It dominated a three-game series against Arkansas Baptist College last season. It split four games in 2018 and 2019.
