Men's Basketball continues homestand against Texas College
The Wiley University men's basketball team will host Texas College in the second game of its three-game homestand at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Alumni Gymnasium.
The game will be broadcast on HBCU+ Channel 115, which can be viewed online or by downloading the app on your phone, tablet or Smart TV. Live statistics will also be available. The links can be found in the men's basketball schedule on wileyathletics.com.
The Wildcats (1-2) are coming off an 88-82 loss against Louisiana Christian University. They rallied from a 16-point deficit but were unable to hold on to the lead. Delor Johnson scored 28 points – hitting 10 shots, including four 3-pointers. Shamir Mosley and Tre Booker followed with 13 points. Demarius Pitts added 12. Chukwuemeke Nwaoshai grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
Texas College (1-1) split its games at the 2023 Austin Area Urban League Historically Black Colleges and Universities Classic. It beat Dillard University 70-60 on Thursday. Qyrique Dabon put up 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Tylor Harris followed with 12 points and five steals. The Steers fell 73-65 against Philander Smith University on Friday. Nagee Jones tallied 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Last season, the Steers went 10-17 and ended the season on a five-game losing streak. They did not qualify for the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. Matt Cross is in his third season leading Texas College.
The Wildcats and Steers will meet for the 67th time with their earliest recorded matchup occurring in 1948-49. Wiley University has been victorious in 40 games, including both games last season.
