Men's Basketball begins road trip against North American University
The Wiley University men's basketball team will embark on a seven-game road trip beginning with North American University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Stafford High School.
There will be no live coverage provided. The Wildcats are coming off their second straight victory with a 72-66 decision over Arkansas Baptist College on Thursday – which avenged their season opening loss. They held the Buffaloes to a 37.5 shooting percentage and only allowed them to hit four of 20 three-point attempts. Wiley edged Arkansas Baptist in 38-37 in rebounds and won the turnover battle – forcing 19 and committing 14.
Delor Johnson – the reigning Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week - led all scorers with 25 points for his fourth game of scoring 20 or more points. He also added five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Demarius Pitts, the reigning GCAC Newcomer of the Week, followed with 12 points. He contributed eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Chukwuemeke Nwaoshai tallied eight points and eight rebounds. Shamir Mosley put up eight points, two rebounds and a steal.
The Wildcats (3-2) started to pull away near the end of the first half. Leading 27-26 with 3:56 remaining, Mosley hit a layup and was fouled. He added three more points from the free throw line after being fouled on a 3-point attempt. Johnson got a steal and slammed it – increasing the Wildcats lead to nine. Wiley took a 37-32 lead into halftime.
At the beginning of the second half, Jalen Bates stole the ball and dished to Tre Booker, who hit a 3-pointer. Christian Beeke made a jump hook and hit a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats its largest lead of the game at 48-35. Wiley would lead by as many as 14 in the second half after Bates connected with Johnson on an alley-oop with 3:29 left. Nwaoshai upped the lead with a second-chance bucket.
Four turnovers, two missed shots and a missed free throw allowed the Buffaloes to go on a 13-point run and cut the margin to three. Pitts got a steal and laid it in to increase the lead to six with 1:21 left.
North American (0-2) is in their third season and first in the Red River Athletic Conference. It fell to Dallas Christian College 81-77 on October 26 and College of Biblical Studies 85-65 on November 1. Jalon Clark is its leading scorer with 18.5 points per game and rebounder with nine per game. Kenwyion White follows with 9.5 points per game.

The only meeting between the Wildcats and Stallions occurred on October 28, 2021, which ended in a 93-69 win for Wiley.
