Men's Basketball opens GCAC play at Dillard, SUNO

The Wiley University men's basketball team will tip off its second season of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play at Dillard University at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Southern University at New Orleans at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Friday's game will be broadcast on HBCU+ Channel 107. Saturday's contest will be on Channel 113. Live statistics will be available for both games. The Wildcats (4-4, 0-0 GCAC) enter conference play on a two-game losing streak after falling 75-59 at No. 4 Langston University on November 22. They are in the middle of a seven-game stretch away from Alumni Gymnasium. Delor Johnson and Pitts each had 15 points against Langston. Johnson leads the GCAC with 23.8 points per game.

This is the second straight season in which Wiley has opened conference play away from Alumni Gymnasium. It has won three of its last four conference openers.

Dillard (4-3, 0-0 GCAC) has won three of its last four games, including winning 69-68 at Jarvis Christian University on Monday. Tory Cargo leads the Bleu Devils with 13.1 points per game. He is also second on the team with four assists per game and fourth with six rebounds per game. Tyrus Crawford leads in rebounds with 7.4 per game. Justin Warren leads the team with 4.4 assists per game and is second with 12.1 points per game. Armond Williams and Mike Reeves are also averaging double-figures in scoring with 11.3 and 10.3 points per game, respectively.

Southern-New Orleans (0-9, 0-0 GCAC) is looking for its first win in its second season since reinstating the program last year. It is coming off a 76-66 loss to Mobile on November 21. Jamal Gibson leads the NAIA with 123 total rebounds and leads the team with 137 points. Devin Daniels is ranked in the top 20 of the NAIA with 16 blocks.

The Wildcats split their meetings against Dillard last season. They won 76-72 on the road on January 15 and fell 63-60 at Tougaloo College on February 3. Wiley won both games convincingly against SUNO with an 83-51 win on the road and a 75-55 victory at home.
