Men's Basketball falls short at Oakwood
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Wiley University men's basketball team had no answer to Oakwood University's 3-point shooting in an 83-73 loss Saturday in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game at Ashby Auditorium.
The Wildcats (6-6, 2-2 GCAC) dropped consecutive games for the second time this season, falling to 3-5 away from Alumni Gymnasium. They only hit two of 15 three-point attempts while allowing Oakwood to hit 12 of 22 three-point attempts. Wiley was outshot overall 48.3 to 40.3 percent. It outrebounded the Ambassadors 41-34 and won the turnover battle 18-16.
Delor Johnson led the team with 18 points. He also contributed eight rebounds and four steals. Demarius Pitts followed with 17 points - adding six rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block. Shamir Mosley tallied 11 points, four rebounds and a steal. Christian Beeke led the team with 10 rebounds,
Wiley led early but was unable to hold on to the momentum. Oakwood stormed back and went into halftime with a seven-point lead. The Wildcats got off to a slow start in the second half which allowed the Ambassadors to build a 14-point lead.
They will return home and face Talladega College at noon on Friday. The Tornadoes picked up their ninth win of the season over Morehouse College.
