Men's Basketball finishes homestand against Fisk, Oakwood
The Wiley University men's basketball team will conclude its seven-game homestand with Gulf Coast Athletic Conference games against Fisk University on Thursday and Oakwood University on Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.
Thursday's game tips at 7 p.m. and Saturday's will start at 8 p.m. Both will be broadcast on HBCU+ Wiley University channel – which can be viewed online or the application can be downloaded on a phone, tablet or Smart TV. Live statistics will also be available and can be found in the women's basketball schedule on wileyathletics.com.
The Wildcats (8-10, 4-6 GCAC) split their games last week with a 76-56 victory over Dillard University on Friday and a 94-84 double overtime loss against Southern University at New Orleans on Saturday. Delor Johnson averaged 20.5 points per game. He recorded his 11th game with 20 or more points with 22 against SUNO. Tayvion Fisher averaged 19 points per game off the bench. He shot 8-for-14 from 3-point territory. Devon Barshow averaged 12 points and 6.5 steals per game.
Fisk (8-9, 5-3 GCAC) didn't play last week with its games against Tougaloo College and Rust College being postponed due to winter weather. The Bulldogs are ranked fourth in the standings, trailing Tougaloo by 1.5 games. They are on a four-game winning streak. Tyon Thompson is averaging 20.3 points and five rebounds per game in his last four. Jayden Lockett is posting 18 points and seven rebounds per game. In the December 7 game against Wiley, Lockett put up 24 points and nine rebounds. Thompson had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Oakwood (1-15, 1-6 GCAC) didn't play last week either. It is on a four-game losing streak - with its only win coming against Wiley on December 9. Judelin Prophete is averaging 13.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his last four. In the win over Wiley, Prophete scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Nicholas Kennard also tallied 15 points with five rebounds and two assists.
The Wildcats are looking to regain the series lead over Fisk. They have split the first four but lost two of three as conference opponents. Thursday will be the Bulldogs' first visit to Alumni Gymnasium. Wiley has won two of three against Oakwood – sweeping its matchups in the 2022-23 season.
