Men's Basketball overpowers Texas College on Homecoming

Donavan Seamster led all scorers with 17 points as Wiley University men's basketball had four score in double-digits and held Texas College under 30 percent shooting in an 88-62 victory in its 2025 Homecoming game Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Wildcats (1-0) emerge victorious in their season opener for the first time since 2019, snapping a four-game losing streak. It is their first Homecoming victory since 2022.
 
Seamster hit five shots with four from 3-point territory. He got a steal with 14:41 left in the first half, which helped the Wildcats overcome a slow start and regain the lead. He increased the lead with his first 3-pointer. The Steers tied the game at 10, but a 3-pointer by Seamster sparked a 14-point run. Threes by Shamir Mosley and Amoni Waring pushed the advantage to 19 with 5:41 left in the first half. The Wildcats led 43-20 at halftime.
 
LaBree Williams hit two 3-pointers early in the second half, which increased the margin to 27. Wiley led by as many as 33. Williams followed Seamster with 16 points while also contributing seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Mosley scored 16 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and providing two rebounds and two blocks. In his first game since 2021, Waring scored 11 points and recorded four rebounds and a block. The Wildcats had assists on 20 of their 27 made shots. James Rudd Jr. led the team with eight in his return after sitting out last season due to injury.
 
Wiley held Texas College to a 28.8 shooting percentage. It did not allow the Steers to hit a 3-pointer. The Wildcats forced 20 turnovers with 13 coming off steals. LaRonte McHenry and Seamster each had three. They turned away eight shots. Shaquan Horsey, Mosley and Williams each had two.
 
The Wildcats will continue their homestand at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Louisiana Christian University, which went 17-13 last season and reached the semifinals of the 2025 Red River Athletic Conference Championship. It will be the second meeting between the two schools in three seasons.
