Wiley University men's basketball struggled to hit shots in a 95-58 loss against Louisiana Christian University on Wednesday at Alumni Gymnasium and a 94-50 loss against Louisiana State University in Shreveport at the LSUS Health and Physical Education Building on Friday.
WEDNESDAY
The Wildcats (1-2) only hit six of 28 shots (21.4 percent) in the first half and turned the ball over 12 times. They allowed Louisiana Christian to shoot 54.5 percent. Wiley trailed by double-digits with 15:16 left in the first half and went into halftime behind 46-18.
The deficit grew to 41 points with 5:47 left in the game. Wiley was outshot 52.9 percent to 40.4. It allowed 11 three-pointers and only hit two. The Wildcats of Wiley University edged Louisiana Christian 37-36 on the boards. They lost the turnover battle 20-9, which led to 28 points for the LCU Wildcats.
Amoni Waring led Wiley with 10 points. Donavan Seamster followed with eight. Cortez Collins led with seven rebounds and two blocks. Ka'Leb Connors, James Rudd Jr. and Caleibria McDonald led the team with two assists each.
FRIDAY
For the second straight game, the Wildcats struggled to score. They didn't get on the board until 17:33 left in the first half and didn't hit their first field goal until 13:48. LSU-Shreveport quickly built a double-digit lead and held an advantage as high as 25 points. Three-pointers by Shamir Mosley and James Rudd Jr. helped close the gap to 18 at halftime.
The Wildcats only hit one field goal in the first seven minutes of the second half, which allowed the Pilots to push the margin to 31. Wiley was unable to make a significant run. It was outshot 57.6 to 26.8 percent and were dominated on the glass 49-29.
Mosley led the team with 15 points, shooting 5-for-10. He contributed five rebounds and five assists. LaRonte McHenry led the team with seven rebounds. Collins recored a team-high two steals and two blocks.
The Wildcats continue their first road swing at the University of North Texas at Dallas at 4 p.m. Saturday.
