Men's Basketball closes 2025 against HBCUAC leader Philander Smith
In its final game of 2025, Wiley University men's basketball faces Philander Smith University, which is unbeaten in Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) play at 3 p.m. Saturday inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The Wildcats (1-10, 0-3 HBCUAC) are looking to return to the win column for the first time since taking its Homecoming game and season opener on October 25. They fell 83-77 against Southern University at New Orleans on Thursday and 67-62 against the defending HBCUAC postseason champion Dillard University on December 6. Wiley held leads at halftime in both games.
Despite the setbacks, Wiley has seen an increase in scoring production. Cortez Collins scored a career-high 16 points against Southern University at New Orleans. Donavan Seamster had his most productive game with 18 points on seven field goals, including four 3-pointers. LaBree Williams recorded his second double-digit scoring game with 13. In the December 6 game against Dillard, Brayden Bradshaw put up 14 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the field and hitting two three-pointers. James Rudd Jr. and Amoni Waring each and 11. Collins continues to impress defensively as he grabbed 17 rebounds, 10 on defense, blocked five shots and stole the ball three times. He leads the HBCUAC and ranks second in the country with 30 blocks. His 2.7 blocks per game ranks fourth in the NAIA.
The Wildcats lead the series 20-12, but have only won once in six games against the Panthers since joining the HBCU Athletic Conference in 2022. They have lost the last four meetings, with their last victory on February 15, 2023. Shamir Mosley has averaged 11.3 points per game against the Panthers. He scored 23 points in the win in 2023.
The Panthers (10-1, 3-0 HBCUAC) are on an eight-game winning streak. The last four have been by double-digits. They are one of two teams still unbeaten in the HBCU Athletic Conference. Raymond Reece leads the Panthers with 23.4 points and a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics best 14.8 rebounds per game. Elijah Anderson follows with 15.7 points and 2.5 assists per game.
