Turnovers plague Men's Basketball against HBCUAC West Leader Tougaloo

TOUGALOO, Miss. — Wiley University's struggles away from home continued Monday night as the Wildcats dropped a 75-58 decision to Tougaloo College, the current leaders of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) West Division.

The loss marks the ninth consecutive road defeat for the Wildcats (1-14, 0-7 HBCUAC), a skid dating back to Feb. 15 of last year. Wiley has not recorded a victory since its season opener on Oct. 25.

Despite the final margin, Wiley pushed the Bulldogs late in the first half. After falling behind by double digits early, the Wildcats used a surge fueled by two Dontae Stringfellow 3-pointers and another from Shamir Mosley to trim the deficit to 36-34 with 3:22 remaining in the period.

However, the Wildcats went cold to close the half, missing two shots and committing two turnovers while being held scoreless. Tougaloo capitalized on the drought to take a 44-34 lead into the locker room.

Wiley opened the second half with the first basket but managed only one field goal over the following six-and-a-half minutes. The scoring slump allowed Tougaloo to stretch its lead to 16 points.

Ka'Leb Connors and Shaquan Horsey briefly revived the offense, combining for a run that cut the margin to 59-51 with 9:41 left. But the Wildcats' shooting touch disappeared again, as they converted only three field goals over the remainder of the contest.

The box score presented a statistical anomaly: Wiley outshot Tougaloo 41.5% to 37.7% and matched the Bulldogs with 36 rebounds. The game was ultimately decided by ball security. Wiley committed 20 turnovers, which Tougaloo converted into 30 points. Conversely, the Wildcats forced only 10 turnovers, resulting in just three points.
