Looking to Break Through
Wiley has not played since Jan. 17, when it fell 75-58 at Tougaloo College. The Wildcats are searching for their first victory since Oct. 25 and their first conference win of the season.
Shamir Mosley continues to lead the Wiley offense, averaging 15.6 points per game, which ties him for sixth in the HBCUAC. Mosley recorded 14 points in the loss to Tougaloo, a game that also saw Shaquan Horsey and Ka'Leb Connors post career highs of 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Defensively, Cortez Collins remains a force in the paint. Collins leads the HBCUAC with 44 blocks (2.9 per game), a mark that ranks him third nationally in blocks per game. He also led the team with eight rebounds in their last outing.
Thursday: At Southern University at New Orleans
The Knights (9-12, 6-3 HBCUAC) currently sit third in the HBCUAC West and have momentum on their side, winning three of their last four games.
SUNO is led by Jaylon Hicks, a 10-time HBCUAC Player of the Week winner, who ranks fifth in the conference in scoring (15.7 ppg), third in steals (36), and fifth in assists (61). Dorian Booker provides a strong interior presence, ranking fourth in the conference in rebounding (7.7 rpg) while shooting 58.4% from the field.
Wiley fell 83-77 to SUNO on Dec. 4. While the Wildcats are looking to avoid a season sweep, history favors them on the road; Wiley has won its last three meetings at "The Castle."
Saturday: At Dillard University
The Bleu Devils (11-9, 5-4 HBCUAC) enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak. Devin Lewis paces the Dillard offense with 13.5 points per game and ranks fourth in the conference with 33 steals.
Dillard's well-rounded attack includes DaCarter Coleman (11.1 ppg), leading rebounder John Kelly III (6.4 rpg), and playmaker Christian Pichon (3.0 apg).
The Wildcats are looking to end a three-game losing streak against Dillard, having lost 67-62 at home on Dec. 6. Wiley's last victory over the Bleu Devils came on Jan. 19, 2024.
Wiley University sponsors 13 varsity sports, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field and baseball.
