Garrett qualifies for nationals; Overton, Allen win events
NORMAN, Okla. - Wiley University men's freshman track and field athlete Ronald Garrett ran a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics qualifying time in his debut meet at the University of Oklahoma's J.D. Martin Invitational Saturday at the Mosier Indoor Facility.
Garrett ran 8.25 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which surpassed the 'B' qualifying standard. His time was fourth out of 11 runners, which were mostly from NCAA schools.
Harold Overton III won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.45. He was followed by his teammate Tyvonne Allen, who finished in 22.58. Allen won the 400-meter dash in 50.40 - edging his teammate Joseph Levier III, who finished in 50.42.
The Wildcats finished runner-up in the 4 x 400-meter relay. The team of Levier, Micah Ruben, Garrett and Allen finished in 3:25.43 - topping five teams. Javoun Goldsby took third in the 800-meter run. Xavier Hutchinson was the lone competitor in the triple jump and lept 13.20 meters.
