Men's Track and Field starts 2024 Outdoor Season at Cowboy Relays
The Wiley University men's track and field team is all set to kick off their outdoor season at the Cowboy Relays Bob Hayes Challenge hosted by McNeese State University at the Bill and Lena Henning Track and Field Complex on Saturday. The event will start with field events at 9 a.m. followed by running events at noon.
The Wildcats are coming off a successful indoor season, where they competed in two track meets. Ronald Garrett was the standout performer for Wiley, as he ran a national championship qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles.
The team is also looking forward to the return of their 2023 NAIA national championship qualifiers Tyvonne Allen, Micah Ruben, Joseph Levier III, and Camron Gibson. These athletes will be crucial to the Wildcats' success this season.
Last year, Wiley finished runner-up in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship and won four events. Xavier Hutchinson won the javelin and was named Most Valuable Field Athlete. Allen won the 400-meter hurdles and was on the winning 4 x 400-meter relay team with teammates Ruben, Levier and Gibson. The team hopes to build on that success this season and make a strong statement at the Cowboy Relays Bob Hayes Challenge.
