Garrett, Ruben claim weekly GCAC Honors
After solid opening performances, Ronald Garrett wins Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week and Micah Ruben wins Field Athlete of the Week for March 4-10.
Garrett surpassed the 'A' qualifying standard in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.58 in his collegiate debut. He finished fourth out of 16 runners and his time ranks second in the NAIA. He topped a 12-man field in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.75. Most of the athletes he competed against were from NCAA Division I schools.
Ruben finished runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 6.85 meters at McNeese State University's Cowboy Relays on Saturday. He topped 21 athletes. Ruben also competed in the 100-meter dash and the 4 x 100-meter relay. He was a member of the national championship qualifying 4 x 100-meter relay team last season.
The Wildcats will compete at Louisiana Tech University's Jim Mize Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
