Wiley University men's track and field athlete Xavier Hutchinson wins Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for March 18-24 after placing in three events at the Prairie View A&M Relays.
Hutchinson threw 44.49 meters in the javelin, finishing runner-up out of 10 athletes, with some from NCAA Division I schools. He also placed fifth in the triple jump and finished in the top eight in the shot put with a distance of 10.25 meters.
Last season, Hutchinson won the javelin at the 2023 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship and placed in five events. He was named Most Valuable Field Athlete after helping the Wildcats finish runner-up in the GCAC Championship.
His award is the third GCAC Weekly honor for the Wildcats. Ronald Garrett and Micah Ruben won Track and Field Athlete of the Week for March 4-10. Wiley will travel to San Marcos, Texas, and compete in Texas State University's Bobcat Invitational from Thursday through Saturday.
