Garrett concludes 2026 season with Personal Best at NAIA National Championship

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Wiley University men's track and field junior Ronald Garrett Jr. ends the 2026 season running a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2026 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday at Karl Strauss Track.
 
The event was delayed several hours due to the weather. Garrett ran 14.30 - finishing 11th out of 21 athletes. He was 0.15 seconds shy of qualifying. Garrett battled injuries, being limited to just four regular-season meets. That didn't prevent him from another stellar season. Garrett repeated as the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) 110-meter hurdles champion and also took the title in the 400-meter hurdles. He earned HBCUAC Track Athlete of the Week three times.
 
Garrett is expected to return along with most of his teammates. Two-time 5,000-meter HBCUAC champion Javoun Goldsby, 2023 and 2022 NAIA national championship qualifier Joseph Levier III, two-time HBCUAC javelin champion Xavier Hutchinson, hurdler and jumper Dantravian Bundred Sloan and middle distance runner Jai Harden graduated. Head coach Christopher McConnell is already bringing in athletes to improve the program for 2027.
