Cross Country unveils 2022 Schedule

The Wiley College men's and women's cross country teams will run in five meets during the 2022 season culminating in competing for their first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship.

This is Wiley College's second season competing after returning from a three-year hiatus last year. The 2022 season opens at Ouachita Baptist University's Bob Gravett Invitational on September 3 in Arkadelphia, Ark. Both teams ran at the meet last season, with the Wildcats finishing seventh. Joseph Levier III led Wiley College with a time of 32:53.4. De Lisha Paul led the Lady Wildcats with a time of 25:04.4 in the 5,000-meter race.

On September 16, both teams travel to Searcy, Ark., for Harding University's Steve Guymon Invitational. The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats head to Lake Charles, La., for McNeese State University's Cowboy Stampede. Wiley College's final meet before the GCAC Championship will be October 14 at Southern Arkansas University's Lois Davis Invitational in Magnolia. The Wildcats finished sixth last season, Michael Lewis ran 34:07 and Paul had the top time for the women at 27:17.5.

"I think we have a good schedule entering a new conference," head coach LaMark Carter said. "It's competitive. The McNeese meet is all NCAA Division I schools and it will give us the chance to test ourselves. The other schools are known for distant runners. Those meets will give us the chance to improve and be ready for conference."

The 2022 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship will be October 21 in Decatur, Ala. Dillard University men and women won last season's titles.

Wiley College previously competed in the Red River Athletic Conference. The men finished fourth in last season's championship. Both teams are expected to return most of their runners.
