Softball falls to defending HBCUAC Champion Stillman

Playing their first home games in the program's rebirth, Wiley University softball struggled with fielding the ball in a 17-3 Game 1 loss. It wasn't able to maintain the momentum of an early scoring outburst in an 11-9 loss in Game 2. The Lady Wildcats fell 10-3 in the finale against the defending Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) champion Stillman College on Thursday and Friday at Smith Park.

She scored on a single by T'era Garrett, which cut the margin to one. After Stillman's five-run outburst in the third, Gwendolyn Johnson singled and advanced on an error by the left fielder. She stole third and scored on a groundball by Jeneieve Fleming.

The Lady Wildcats scored their final run in the sixth. Miranda Castaneda walked with one out. She advanced on an infield single by Kyrra Boone and a passed ball. A groundball to shortstop brought Castaneda home. Unable to secure a run-rule, the Lady Tigers added nine runs on five hits and two errors in the seventh.

The Lady Wildcats extended their lead in the second. Dyniste Lacy led off with a single and stole second. She eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Wildcats led 9-0 entering the fifth and were in position to gain a run-rule victory. Stillman extended the game with five runs on five hits. The first two batters reached. Rodriguez got JaLeah Orr to pop up. After a double by Addison Nupsul drove in the first run, Rodriguez struck out Alex Erwin. A single and an error allowed three runs to score and extended the game.

The Lady Wildcats tried to rally with singles by Fleming and Sariya Calhoun but a double play ended the inning.
