Softball unable to keep pace with Central Baptist
Wiley University softball could not match Central Baptist College's power in 12-1 and 15-3 losses at Smith Park on Monday.
The Lady Wildcats (5-16, 5-10 HBCUAC) played their fourth and fifth games in a three-day span. They fall to 0-7 at home and get run-ruled in a doubleheader for the second time this season.
GAME 1
Wiley fell behind in the second inning after allowing two runs on a hit, two walks and a wild pitch. It gave up three doubles in the third, which led to three runs. The Mustangs added two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Lady Wildcats got on the board in the fifth. Miranda Castaneda led off with a double and advanced on a wild pitch. Adriauna Coleman brought her home with an infield single.
The Lady Wildcats were outhit 12-4. Gwendolyn Johnson and Jazmine Rodriguez also got base hits. Rodriguez pitched the entire game.
GAME 2
Wiley struck first with two runs in the first inning. Alayna Parram reached on an error and T'era Garrett singled. A dropped foul ball extended the inning. Ma'Kiya Miles drew a walk and Jeneiveve Fleming singled up the middle to score Parram and Garrett.
The lead was short-lived. Central Baptist tied the game with two runs on a hit, a walk and hit batter. The Lady Wildcats recorded only two hits for the rest of the game. The Mustangs took control in the third inning with six runs on six hits and an error. Six runs in the fourth put Central Baptist in position to invoke the run-rule.
Dyniste Lacy singled and Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the fourth. Rodriguez threw the first three innings. Only four of the eight runs she allowed were earned. Garrett pitched the last three innings.
The Lady Wildcats will return to action on April 7 when they host Southwestern Athletic Conference school Grambling State University.
