Women's Basketball announces 2022-23 schedule

The Wiley College women's basketball program revealed its 2022-23 schedule on Friday.

The Lady Wildcats will play 26 games with eight at Alumni Gymnasium, beginning with the 2022 Homecoming game against Arkansas Baptist College on November 5 at 2 p.m. They will host a scrimmage on October 25 against Angelina College. After playing home games without fans last season, they are open for attendance.

The 2022-23 season will open on October 29 at Jarvis Christian University, which will be the first of seven games against the Red River Athletic Conference, with which Wiley College competed from 1998-2022. It will play a home-and-home with Texas College, playing at Alumni Gymnasium on November 8 and going to Tyler on December 6. The Lady Wildcats will host Huston-Tillotson University on November 22. On December 30 and 31, they will play in Our Lady of the Lake University's Winter Classic against the host Saints and Louisiana State University-Alexandria.

The Lady Wildcats will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Title IX during the November 8 game against Texas College and will switch times with the men. They will host National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III program Centenary College of Louisiana on November 29 to round out its home nonconference games.

Wiley College will play an exhibition game at NCAA Division I and Southwestern Athletic Conference school Prairie View A&M University on November 10. It will also travel to Paul Quinn College on November 17, Arlington Baptist University on November 19 and Arkansas Baptist on December 12.

Entering its first season in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, the Lady Wildcats will have to adjust to a different style of conference play. During its time in the RRAC, they played a traditional home-and-home nonconference schedule. This season most of their conference games will occur in pod tournaments. Philander Smith College will be the only home-and-home matchup. The Lady Wildcats will open conference play in Little Rock, Ark. on December 14 and close the regular season at Alumni Gymnasium on February 15.

Wiley College will host a pod from February 10-12. Southern University of New Orleans, which is returning after a three-year hiatus; Oakwood University, which is also new to the GCAC and Tougaloo College will visit Alumni Gymnasium.

The other pods will be at Dillard University from January 13-15, Southern-New Orleans from January 20-22 and Tougaloo College from February 3-5. The 2023 GCAC Tournament will be from February 23-26. The location is to be announced.

The Lady Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a 5-18 season, during which they had to forfeit four games over disagreements over protocols relating to the ongoing coronavirus. They had to forfeit the last six games because the roster was reduced to a level where it wasn't safe to compete due to injuries and discipline.

Nine of 11 players return from last season's squad – including All-Conference Honorable Mention Alaeh Pressley and starters Kaitlyn Davis, Kayja Jackson and Diamond Hawthorne.
