Fourth quarter shooting slump costs Women's Basketball against Dillard

JACKSON, Miss. – The Wiley College women's basketball team underwent a lengthy field goal drought in the fourth quarter of a 71-56 loss to Dillard University Friday in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game at Tougaloo College's Kroger Gymnasium.

The loss was the first for the Lady Wildcats when leading after three quarters as they dropped into a tie for fifth place with Tougaloo College. The Bleu Devils rose to fourth, winning their four of their last five.

Wiley College (12-7, 3-5 GCAC) trailed by as many as six in the third quarter. Tamia Dolls stole the ball hit a layup. With 6:34 remaining, she hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 37. The Lady Wildcats took the lead on baskets by Kayja Jackson and Nasserine William. They led 50-49 entering the fourth quarter. It didn't hit a shot for nearly six minutes and only scored two points on free throws. The shooting woes allowed Dillard to go on an eight-point run to claim the lead for good. Tamia Dolls broke the drought with 4:08 left.

The Lady Wildcats were outshot 39.7 to 30 percent. They only hit 18 of 60 field goal attempts and three of 18 three-point attempts. Kaitlyn Davis led the team in scoring for the third straight game and seventh this season with 15 points. Diamond Hawthorne followed with 13 points. She grabbed 13 rebounds to secure her second double-double of the season.

Wiley College will play Tougaloo College at 5 p.m. tomorrow. The Lady Bulldogs fell 85-58 to Fisk University.
