Women's Basketball visits LCU, hosts Talladega

The Wiley University women's basketball team wraps its road trip at Louisiana Christian University on Monday and opens Gulf Coast Athletic Conference at home against Talladega College on Tuesday.

Monday's game tips at 5 p.m. Live video and statistics will be available. Tuesday's game will start at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on HBCU+ Channel 115. Live statistics will also be available. The links can be found in the women's basketball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Lady Wildcats (5-2) haven't played since they fell 64-41 on November 17. Tamia Dolls led the team with 15 points. Kiersten Harris led the team with seven rebounds and three assists. Tuesday's game will mark the first time Wiley has opened conference play at home since the 2019-20 season.

Louisiana Christian won its only regular season game 69-63 over Dillard University on November 16. It played exhibition games at NCAA Division I institutions Louisiana Tech University and University of Louisiana-Monroe.

An'Tiesha Griffin leads Louisiana Christian with 21 points, three assists and three steals. Princis Goff followed with 18 points and three steals. Deja Tanks recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Talladega (3-2, 1-0 GCAC) played two exhibition games against Georgia Southwestern State University and the University of West Georgia. The Tornadoes fell to Voorhees College 53-43 in its last countable game on November 11. They opened GCAC play with a 63-46 victory over Southern University at New Orleans on November 7.

Arieonna Booker leads the Tornadoes with 10.8 points per game. She also leads the team with 2.3 assists and four steals per game. Brooklyn Talton is the leading rebounder with 8.8 rebounds per game.

Monday will mark the fourth meeting between Wiley and Louisiana Christian. Wiley is looking for its first win in the series. The teams haven't played since 2010. They were scheduled to play during the 2021-22 season but Louisiana Christian was unwilling to adhere to Wiley's coronavirus protocols. The Red River Athletic Conference awarded a forfeit to Louisiana Christian because Wiley canceled the remainder of their season due to a lack of players even though the men didn't make up the game.

The Lady Wildcats and Tornadoes will meet for the second time. Wiley won the first meeting 74-57 at the Dallas Historically Black Colleges and Universities Invitational. Talladega's coach Akia Stanton is very familiar with Wiley as she coached Jarvis Christian University from 2014-2018.
