Women's Basketball continues homestand against Philander Smith

The Wiley University women's basketball team will continue its homestand on Saturday, hosting Philander Smith University at 3 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium.

The game will broadcast on HBCU+ on the Wiley University channel. The application is free to download on your phone, tablet or SmartTV. Live statistics will also be available.

The Lady Wildcats (10-5, 5-2 GCAC) split their games with a 79-47 loss to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference leader Rust College and a 90-81 overtime victory over Tougaloo College.

Jay'lann Myles averaged 14 points and five rebounds per game last week. Kiersten Harris put up a career-high 22 points in Saturday's overtime victory over Tougaloo College. Wiley ranks third in the GCAC with 13.5 free throws made and 21.7 free throw attempts per game. It is also third with 13.9 offensive rebounds, 26.4 defensive rebounds and 40.3 total rebounds per game.

The Lady Panthers (12-5, 5-2 GCAC) are on a three-game winning streak, including a 77-68 victory over the GCAC leader Rust College on Saturday. Myia Yelder averaged 14.7 points per game in the last three. Dasia Turner is the Lady Panthers leading scorer with 11.3 points per game.

Elaijha Brown ranks second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with a 50.5 field goal percentage and 2.7 steals per game. She is also fifth with 3.2 assists per game. Turner ranks third in the conference with 1.5 blocks per game and sixth with 8.1 rebounds per game.

Philander Smith leads the conference with 22.8 three-pointer attempts per game. It is second in field goals made per game (24.1), field goal percentage (39.8) and 3-pointers made per game (6.4).

The winner of Saturday's game will remain in third in the GCAC standings and stay within striking distance of the leaders Rust College and Fisk University. The Lady Wildcats trail the overall series 9-8 and have only won three of the last 10 meetings.
