Cooper wins GCAC Player of the Week
After posting a career-high point total on Friday, Ashunti Cooper wins Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for January 15-21.
Cooper scored 23 points, hitting nine of 14 shots against Dillard University. She shot 3-for-5 from 3-point territory. It was her fifth double-digit scoring game of the season and third in the last four games. Cooper also recorded four steals, a rebound and an assist.
In her junior season, Cooper has seen a significant increase in playing time – averaging 17.7 minutes per game compared to 5.2 last season. Friday was the second time Cooper started. This is the third weekly honor the Lady Wildcats have won this season. Jamiya Eaddy was the Player and Newcomer of the Week for October 23 to November 5.
The Lady Wildcats are ranked fifth in the GCAC and host Fisk University on Thursday and Oakwood University on Saturday.
